KANU Strengthens Global Partnerships at the 2025 IDU Forum in Brussels
The International Democratic Union (IDU) continues to serve as a critical platform for fostering collaboration among center-right political parties worldwide. In 2025, the Kenya African National Union (KANU) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international political partnerships by actively participating in the IDU Forum held in Brussels, Belgium.
Expanding Diplomatic and Political Engagements
KANU’s presence at the forum underscores its dedication to advancing democratic governance, fostering political stability, and exploring collaborative solutions to regional and global challenges. The forum brought together distinguished political leaders, policymakers, and thought leaders to discuss strategies for promoting democratic ideals, sustainable development, and political cooperation.
At the sidelines of the forum, KANU representatives engaged in meaningful discussions with notable figures such as former President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Akufo Addo, and former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rt. Hon. Liz Truss. Their conversations focused on shared perspectives regarding governance, economic reforms, and the role of center-right parties in addressing modern political challenges.
Additionally, KANU engaged with Dr. Holger Dix, Director of the Regional Programme Political Dialogue for Sub-Saharan Africa at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, to explore new opportunities for strengthening political dialogue within Africa. The exchange underscored the importance of cooperative governance and the role of political institutions in driving socio-economic transformation across the continent.

Collaboration with the Democratic Union of Africa (DUA)
Recognizing the necessity for stronger intra-African political collaboration, KANU also engaged with the leadership of the Democratic Union of Africa (DUA). The discussions, held with DUA Chairperson Louisa Atta-Agyemang and Secretary General Joy Rueben, highlighted the importance of African political unity in addressing regional concerns, enhancing democratic participation, and fostering sustainable policy development across member states.
KANU’s Vision for Strengthening Democracy
Through its participation in the IDU Forum, KANU has reinforced its commitment to playing an active role in international and regional political discourse. By fostering strong alliances with key global stakeholders, the party aims to ensure that Kenya remains an integral part of global democratic progress and policy formulation.
KANU’s engagement with international political leaders and institutions is expected to create avenues for collaborative initiatives in governance, leadership development, and capacity building. As the party continues to strengthen diplomatic and political ties, it remains focused on leveraging international partnerships to benefit Kenya and contribute to the broader democratic landscape.
By participating in forums like IDU, KANU is not only bolstering its political influence but also ensuring that Kenya’s voice is represented in discussions that shape the future of global democracy. As the world navigates evolving political dynamics, KANU’s proactive approach in establishing meaningful collaborations serves as a testament to its commitment to progressive political leadership.
