KANU Steps Up Grassroots Modernization with Nationwide Digitization Drive Ahead of General Elections
The Kenya African National Union (KANU) has accelerated its nationwide Branch Digitization Program, marking a decisive shift toward modernizing its administrative machinery, streamlining grassroots operations, and aligning with statutory standards established by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
Under the initiative, the party headquarters is outfitting county branch offices across the country with desktop computer sets and upgraded internet infrastructure. The rollout is structured to transition branch administrative workflows from manual systems to real-time digital databases, significantly enhancing data integrity, membership registry maintenance, and inter-office coordination.
The push comes at a critical juncture as the independence party lays strategic ground for upcoming grassroots mobilizations and positions its network for the next General Election. Strengthening the digital capacity of regional outposts ensures local officials can seamlessly manage voter outreach, coordinate ward-level activities, verify party membership lists instantly, and maintain transparent reporting lines directly with the national headquarters.
As part of the active rollout, a national delegation recently concluded visits to key county hubs. At the Kiambu KANU Branch, the headquarters team delivered administrative computing infrastructure to local branch leadership led by Branch Chairman Mr. Mukirae.
The delegation subsequently visited the Nakuru KANU Branch to hand over additional hardware and review administrative readiness. The visiting team—comprising National Executive Committee (NEC) Member Joshua Aluoch, Executive Director Mercy Wanyeki, and Branch Coordinator Andrew Oyile—was received by Nakuru Branch Chairman Mr. Ngunjiri and local party coordinators.
Spearheaded by the KANU Secretariat under the leadership of Executive Director Mercy Wanyeki, the technology modernization program is scheduled to expand across the remaining county offices. By embedding modern technology at the local level, the party aims to build an agile, data-driven grassroots foundation capable of mounting robust civic campaigns and structured electoral operations nationwide.
