The Mombasa Manual: A New Blueprint for Power

In a landmark move for women’s political inclusion, the KANU Women Congress (KWC) has officially adopted its new Mombasa Training Manual, signaling a shift toward a more structured and professional approach to grassroots mobilization.

The launch marks the beginning of a nationwide cascade training program designed to turn county-level women leaders into Master Trainers (ToTs). These leaders are now tasked with taking the manual’s modules back to their constituencies and wards, ensuring that the “Jogoo” party’s female wing is the most organized and prepared force heading into the 2027 General Election.

1. The Mombasa Manual: A New Blueprint for Power

The adoption of the Mombasa Training Manual is not just about documentation; it’s about standardization. For too long, political training has been ad-hoc. This manual provides a uniform curriculum that covers:

  • Transformative Leadership: Moving beyond representation to active, influential leadership within party ranks.
  • Political Governance: Understanding the mechanics of the Kenyan government, from the Ward level to the National Assembly.
  • Strategic Campaigning: Equipping women with the tools to run competitive, well-funded, and digitally-savvy campaigns.

2. Empowering the Grassroots through ToTs

The KWC strategy centers on the “Train the Trainer” (ToT) model. By equipping county grassroots leaders first, the Congress is ensuring that the training is:

  • Localized: Modules can be delivered in local languages and adapted to specific regional challenges.
  • Sustainable: The party is building an internal database of experts who don’t rely on national headquarters for every meeting.
  • Scalable: One trained county leader can empower hundreds of women at the ward level in a matter of weeks.

3. Mission 2027: Readiness and Representation

The 2027 election will be a defining moment for women in leadership. The KWC is focused on more than just “voter turnout”; they are preparing a pipeline of candidates.

“The Mombasa Manual is our roadmap. We are no longer waiting for a seat at the table; we are training our women to build the table themselves. By 2027, every KWC leader will be a governance expert in her own right.”

— KWC Leadership

Key Pillars of the 2027 Preparedness Module:

  1. Voter Education: Ensuring women across the country understand the electoral process.
  2. Resource Mobilization: Training on how to fundraise and manage campaign budgets.
  3. Conflict Management: Preparing leaders to navigate the often-turbulent political environment safely and effectively.
