There is so much to celebrate about women on this International Women’s Day and every other day; their accomplishments, resilience and simply the fact that they are women. And three young women come to mind.
We salute Nelly Cheboi – the founder and CEO of TechLit Africa – for her crowning as CNN’S 2023 Hero of the Year. By providing access to computers to rural schools and imparting technological skills among pupils, she has significantly contributed toward bridging the digital divide in our education system.
Against all odds, Anna Qabale Duba rose from a little-known village in Marsabit County to the global stage after being feted as the Worldâs Best Nurse. As a professional, she has fundamentally contributed towards enhancing primary healthcare and raising awareness against harmful cultural practices that expose girls and young women to early pregnancies, health complications and perpetual poverty.
In the frontier of sports, Angella Okutoyi is a trailblazer. She emerged the winner of the Girls’ Junior Singles Grand Slam match during the 2022 Australian Open, effectively becoming the first Kenyan to progress to the third round of a Grand Slam. This is no mean feat.
The three, among many others whose efforts go unnoticed, embody the true spirit of Kenyan women who are at the center of our progress as a nation due to their selflessness, courage and abiding belief in their potential.
Indeed, women are phenomenal. Happy International Women’s Day.
