Launch of The Digital Membership Recruitment Drive – HON. Gideon Moi Speech
Members of the National Executive Council;
Members of the press;
Ladies and gentlemen;
Hamjambo! Today marks yet another milestone in the history of our party. For sometimes now, we have been rolling out a series of activities to revamp our grassroots structures and consolidate our national support. Part of this endeavor has been the reorganization of various party organs to infuse efficiency.
Henceforth, the newly constituted Standing Committee on NEC will help in the management of party affairs, including the national secretariat. It will also continually evaluate the performance of the party and recommend strategies to streamline our operations.
Ladies and gentlemen;
The Political Parties Act of 2011 set out a minimum threshold of members that a party should have. In compliance with this provision, we are here today to launch our digital membership recruitment systemthat will strengthen and complement the existing manual process.
This new system comprises of the use of USSD: *483*03#, and a Web Portal: join.kanuparty.org. In this portal, you can create a membership account and receive updates from the party. To streamline our nomination process, we will generate a comprehensive membership register from this system to facilitate free, fair, transparent, and verifiable primaries.
Furthermore, we have been receiving requests from members to review our membership categories and make them even more accommodative. And because we are a party that listens, I am glad to announce that we have revised these categories and developed a wide range of preferences.
Effective today, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Imara are our new cadres of membership; with platinum being of the highest value and Imara being the ordinary membership. Each category will bear specific privileges as outlined in the party’s membership policy.
Additionally, these categories factor in the affirmative needs of women, youth, and the people with disabilities. This is our commitment to fulfilling the aspiration for equity and inclusivity as captured in our Constitution.
Also, in recognition of the extraordinary times we are living in, this system will minimize physical contact and interactions. As a result, it will escalate the baseline health protocols set to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Ladies and gentlemen;
Technology has become an intrinsic part of each and every one of us. In embracing it, we have also had to fashion our party around digitalization to make it even more responsive to the emerging technological trends.
For avoidance of doubt, this project is purely the creativity of the young people in our party. It is an affirmation of the safe spaces in KANU for the youth to showcase their talents and hone their leadership skills.
Ladies and gentlemen;
As is publicly known, we are entering a very crucial phase as a political party. The stakes are indeed high. And because we have a history to contend with, our climb will even be steeper.
But as I have always reiterated, if there is anywhere we can draw invaluable lessons as a party, is in our past. A past of mixed fortunes. A past of ups and downs. A past we are ready to shoulder because it is the beacon that lights our path into the future.
While we do this, we are also guided by a set of fundamental values that we hold dear. Thus, we have never deviated from our special focus on women and youth; promotion and protection of local economies; and above all, remaining truthful to Peace, Love, and Unity.
Ladies and gentlemen;
I want to assure you today that KANU is on a steady path to greatness. And as Anna Eleanor Roosevelt once remarked, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. Therefore, I hereby officially declare the commencement of the KANU national digital membership recruitment drive.
Thank you and God bless you.
