PART 1
NAME AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PARTTY
ARTICLE 1: NAME OF THE PARTY
1.1. The name of the Party shall be the KENYA AFRICAN NATIONAL UNION
(hereinafter referred to as “the Party” or alternately “KANU”), which shall be a body
corporate with a common seal and shall have perpetual succession and may sue and be
sued in, its corporate name.
1.2. The registered office of the Party shall be in Nairobi, Hurlinghum, Off Chania Avenue,
or at such alternative address as the National Executive Council-may appoint.
ARTICLE 2: INTERPRETATION
In this Constitution unless the context otherwise warrants –
“Article” means Article of this Constitution and “clause” or “Sub-clause’.... shall be similarly
construed;
“Branch” shall be coterminous with the County names and boundaries a set out in the
Constitution of the Republic and by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission from
time to time;
“Constituency” means constituency as defined under the Constitution of Kenya;
“MCA” means Member of the County Assembly
“Member” means member of the Party;
“National Chairperson” means the National Chairperson of the party and other National
Officials shall be construed accordingly;
“Party” means the Kenya African National Union (KANU);
“Political Party” means any association or organization of persons which has for its objects or
purposes proposing or supporting of candidates for National or local authority elections.
‘Polling Centre” shall have the same meaning as is assigned by the relevant electoral law and
shall be coterminous with the designated/polling Centre under such law;
“Registrar” means the registrar of political parties designated as such under section 3 of the
Political Parties Act, 2011.
