KANU MANIFESTO 2022-2027
Water
AGENDA 1 Our Vision
Access to adequate and reliable water supply is key to the economic development and
health of the population. Water is a resource whose availability is helpful for many industries,
including agriculture and food production, energy generation, and sanitary demands with a growing
population. Our vision is to ensure sufficient provision of safe water for all, both as an economic
and social right, and not a privilege.
Our Plan
We plan to facilitate water availability and accessibility, conservation, and protection of available
water resources for present and future generations. We will allocate water resources reasonably
and ensure that every Kenyan has clean and safe functional sanitation systems. With sufficient
water, farmers can increase output and enhance food security through irrigation.
Our Commitment to Sustainable Water
In the next five years, we will:
Ensure a clean and reliable supply of piped water to all households in urban centers, public
schools, public parks, bus terminals, health facilities, and other public institutions within five
years by allocating Ksh 200 billion annually to facilitate water availability in every town, city, and
urban center under the Maji Kwa Wote Program.
In cooperation with county governments through Water Sector Trust Fund, fastrack the
construction of dams, water pans, rainwater harvesting, and drilling of boreholes to ensure
constant and sustainable supply of clean water for domestic and economic use to all Kenyans.
Establish and maintain wastewater treatment facilities in every county to encourage recycling
and reuse of water for agriculture and irrigation, industrial processes, and environmental
restoration.
Reduce the distance of safe drinking water sources to at least 200 meters in semi-urban areas
through water vending initiatives that can also create local job opportunities.
Recover all illegally allocated land in water tower zones and aggressively reforest these areas to
restore our water catchment and wetland areas.
In collaboration with county governments, expand the access to sanitation by building and
restoring functioning drainage and sewerage systems in all major towns by at least 700, 000
households.
