KANU MANIFESTO 2022-2027
Clean and Renewable Energy
AGENDA 1 Our Vision
Kenya has significant renewable energy potential, including geothermal, wind, solar, biomass, and
biofuels ranking ninth in the world for geothermal power generating capacity (Renewables Global
Status Report, 2018). Our vision is to attain energy security and accessibility to cater to increasing
demand for energy, emphasizing clean, renewable energy.
Our Plan
We plan to ensure access to clean and affordable energy interventions that are required to
address energy shortfalls and potential economic opportunities that will stimulate job creation. We
will engage stakeholders to increase adoption of green technologies and support research to
guarantee sustainable energy uptake. Green is no longer just a trend; it is a way of life.
Our Commitment to Sustainable Energy
In the next five years, we will:
Promote clean, renewable energy investment, like wind, solar, biofuel, biomass, and
geothermal power, and decommission diesel-powered generators.
Fully implement ecotax as a driver of change in sustainable energy to ensure that Kenya fully
transitions to clean, diverse, renewable energy sources.
Work towards attaining energy sovereignty through investment in energy supply capacity to
reduce electricity cost by at least 50% and insulate the country from external shocks.
Revise the electricity distribution cost in Kenya relative to inflation to liberalize the generation
and distribution of power supply to lower the cost of electricity to consumers and producers.
Support priority sectors such as green transportation and clean manufacturing in their
transition to renewable energy through policy, legislation, access to information, and financial
incentives.
Promote the creation of at least 100,000 green jobs in five years by establishing an enabling
policy and legislative framework for investment in renewable energy.
Identify research, education, training, and technology needs to promote strategic uptake in
the renewable energy sector.
