KANU MANIFESTO 2022-2027

                Quality, Affordable, and Decent

           AGENDA 3 Housing

Housing is a physical manifestation of social and cultural practices

and forms an integral part of the assessment of the development and
                health of an economy.

According to National Housing Corporation, Kenya has a cumulative housing deficit of two million
units growing by 200,000 units per year being driven mainly by rapid population growth of 2.6% p.a
compared to the global average of 1.2%, and a high urbanization rate of 4.4% against a global average
of 2.1%. Supply, on the other hand, has been constrained with the Ministry of Housing estimating the
total annual supply to be at 50,000 units. Notably, the Ministry indicates that 83.0% of the existing
housing supply is for the high income and upper-middle-income segments, with only 15.0% for the
lower-middle and 2.0% for the low-income population. In summary, while 74.4% of Kenya’s working
population requires affordable housing, only 17.0% of housing supply goes into serving this low to
              lower-middle income segment.

              Our Vision
Our vision is to develop adequate, standardized, affordable, and decent houses for all with a
continuous supply of clean water and electricity that will meet the increasing demand of the growing
population in compliance with every Kenyan's economic and social rights.

              Our Plan
We plan to facilitate mass housing production of affordable homes across the country by addressing
the housing limitations of land availability, cost of construction, infrastructure and access to financing.
We intend to improve the social infrastructure in all our informal settlements by working in
partnership with county governments, financial institutions, private developers, manufacturers of
building materials, and cooperatives to deliver homes faster at a reduced cost of construction by at KANU
              least half.
