ARTICLE 37:
PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATING PARTY CANDIDATES FOR ELECTIONS
37.1. Whenever a general election is called or a by-election for seats in Parliament or a
County level, the National Elections Board shall be convened and shall commence the
process of nominating a Party candidate thereof in accordance with the election laws in
place.
37.2. The Nomination of the Party Presidential Candidate shall be by the Presidential
Nomination Council comprising of branch executives committee.
37.3. Applicants for the Party ticket for any seat shall duly complete party nomination forms
and return the same to the Chairperson of the National Elections Board within the
specified time together with:
(a) A certified copy of the applicant’s national identity card;
(b) A certified copy of the applicants valid Membership Card;
(c) Certificate from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission as proof of
compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of the Republic;
(d) Tax clearance certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority;
(e) Certificate of good standing from the Higher Education Loans Board; and
(f) Credit Reference Bureau certificate;
(g) Certificate of Good Conduct;
(h) Such non-refundable fee as may be determined by the National Elections Board;
(i) Signed and commissioned Prescribed party code of conduct form
37.4. The National Elections Board shall in conjunction with the Electoral body, within
fourteen days after the closure of the time set for receipt of applications, publish in the
party’s website the names of all candidates cleared to contest the nominations for the
party ticket, including the date of the nominations thereof.
37.5. The nomination of the party’s Presidential Candidate shall be by secret ballot, and a
Presidential Nomination Council shall restrict its business to nomination of the party’s
Presidential Candidate, and no other business (except a consequential matter) shall be
transacted.
